Innovation at Renewable Products LtdNorthern Regional College is one of ten knowledge providers in Northern Ireland recognised by Invest NI through the Innovation Voucher Scheme to provide knowledge and technology transfer support to SMEs. Renewable Products Ltd applied to Invest NI for assistance under this initiative and entered into a partnership with NRC.

Issue to be addressed
Renewable Products Ltd were keen to explore the possibility of increasing productivity in its fire logs process and sought assistance to design and manufacture a prototype ‘chute and stacking’ system to enable cut blocks to move away from the saw area to the bagging area and to ensure free flow of blocks into netting bags for dispatch.

The Team at NRC used AutoCAD to design and produce manufacturing drawings of a ‘chute stacking system’ which were signed-off by Renewable Products Ltd. Then NRC manufactured a prototype ‘chute stacking system’ and handed it over to John Rodgers, Director of Renewable Products Ltd for trials. John Rodgers said, “The prototype provided by NRC assisted us in scaling up one of our timber recycling operations and provided us with the analysis to develop our business casein this emerging sector.”
