Course Content

The CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum is composed of four courses:

  • Introduction to Networks
  • Routing and Switching Essentials
  • Scaling Networks
  • Connecting Networks

The courses are delivered sequentially and each course is a prerequisite for the next course.

Cisco is the leading supplier of networking equipment and network&management for the Internet. Over the years, Cisco has developed a curriculum of courses for IT professionals to educate them on networking technologies and Cisco products. The CCNA Discovery curriculum for the course is online, so students can access material from outside the college.

 

Year 1 students will study Introduction to Networks & Routing and Switching Essentials.

Year 2 students will study Scaling Networks & Connecting Networks.


Course Aims

The suite of CISCO CCNA courses are designed for people looking to gain professional certification which is recognised world wide. Many of the world networks use CISCO equipment and technology. This course will be a good starting point for those who want a career in networks and networking.

  • Cisco Online Assessment exams
  • Semester Final Exam (75% pass mark)

There are no prerequisite qualifications required for this course. Applications are particularly welcome from women and mature students with good computer skills who feel they may wish to pursue a career in the computer industry.

Where mature students wish to have prior education and/or experience taken into account, in lieu of meeting the full course entry requirements, they should contact the relevant Course Director by 13th August, as an application deadline will apply.

Subject to numbers, students completing Year 1 Introduction to Networks and Routing and Switching Essentials can progress to year 2 Scaling Networks & Connecting Networks.  Students will be prepared to take the Cisco CCENT certification exam after completing year 1 and the CCNA Routing and Switching certification exam after completing Year 2.
