The qualification covers a wide range of subjects including engineering fundamentals, electrical engineering, health & safety, organisational efficiency and improvement, electrical panel wiring, electrical power and electrical testing.

How do I join? • You must have attained the minimum school leaving age of 16 (up to 22 yrs for those who require additional support and 24 yrs for those in care) and be unemployed. • Complete an application form and attend an interview. • Take part in an aptitude test (if applicable).

What will I study? City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Engineering – Electrical and Electronics Technology units to include: • Working in engineering • Principles of engineering technology • Principles of electrical and electronics technology • Maintaining electrical wiring support systems • Maintaining electrical equipment and systems • Wiring and testing electrical circuits • Constructing, testing and fault finding electronic circuits Maintaining electrical wiring support systems This unit is concerned with the process and equipment essential for the maintenance of electrical engineering equipment up to 400v. The learner will be able to prepare and carry out maintenance on a range of electrical systems and equipment Wiring and testing electrical circuits This unit is concerned with the process and equipment essential to the wiring and testing of electrical circuits connected to a 230/400v installation. Constructing, testing and fault finding electronic circuits This unit is concerned with the processes and equipment essential to building and testing electronic circuits. The topics covered will enable the learner to collect, read and interpret information, plan and prepare for electronics activities, and state how to identify electronic components. The Trainee will also be able to perform circuit and diagnostic checks, and make simple deductions from the results of these checks.

What support is available while I am on the course? You will be allocated a personal tutor to help you throughout the course. The college also offers learning support and guidance.

Assessment Methods

Continuous assessment throughout the course of practical workshop and theory tasks. Online multiple choice, assignment and written exam. This will be presented as a portfolio of evidence.

Achievement of the Level 2 Diploma in Engineering could lead to employment within the Engineering Industry with the possible opportunity to achieve an ApprenticeshipsNI Level 2. NB: Progression to ApprenticeshipsNI requires paid employment and will depend upon grades achieved and satisfactory progress reviews.
