This qualification is ideal for anyone looking for a career in ICT, wishing to improve their professional ability or hoping to progress in their role.

Anyone wishing to develop their ICT competency; from those just starting out in the industry to those in senior management roles. You could be working within the ICT sector, or providing IT support or strategy in any other sector.

Will I complete a work placement? The College is committed to ensuring that all trainees benefit from the opportunity to undertake work placement through the Level 1 and Level 2 Skills for Work. Industry links are also through the work placements and college, employer engagement.

APPRENTICESHIPSNI LEVEL 2 & LEVEL 3
ApprenticeshipsNI Level 2 & Level 3 combines the practical hands-on experience of the workplace with the knowledge and understanding and practical skills gained in the college classroom and work.

How do I join?
You must be in paid employment at least 21 hours per week including college day release. You must be aged 16-24. Apply online and attend an information session. Take part in an aptitude test (if applicable).
There is NO COST to the apprentice or the employer for ApprenticeshipsNI training. The only cost to the employer is the apprentice’s salary. An Employer Financial Incentive is available on achievement by the Apprentice of full Level 2 and/or Level 3 Framework. This incentive ranges from £250 to £1,500 depending on the complexity and level of apprenticeship undertaken.

Assessment Methods

Level 1 & 2 Skills for Work
Continuous assessment throughout the course of practical workshop and theory tasks. This will be presented as a portfolio of evidence. Practical aspects of the course are examined by an overall practical end test. Theory is tested at the end of each unit by an online, multiple choice exam. There will also be an externally set multiple choice exam.

Level 1 Skills for Work
You must have attained the minimum school leaving age of 16 (up to 22 years for those who require additional support and 24 years for those in care) and be unemployed. And meet the GCSE entry criteria for Skills for Work Level 1.

Level 2 Skills for Work
You must have attained the minimum school leaving age of 16 (up to 22 years for those who require additional support and 24 years for those in care) and be unemployed and meet the GCSE entrance criteria for Skills for Work Level 2.

Level 1 Skills for Work
Achievement of the Level 1 Diploma could lead to progression to the Level 2 Diploma.  Progression will depend upon grades achieved and satisfactory progress reviews.

Level 2 Skills for Work
Achievement of the Level 2 Diploma could lead to employment within the IT Industry with the possible opportunity to achieve an ApprenticeshipsNI Level 2. NB: Progression to ApprenticeshipsNI requires paid employment and will depend upon grades achieved and satisfactory progress reviews.

Essential Skills

All full-time students at the Northern Regional College have the opportunity to improve their English, Maths and IT skills and gain qualifications. The qualification you take will depend on the qualification you already have. If you do not have a grade C or above in GCSE English, Maths or ICT, you MUST do Essential Skills. This will form a compulsory part of your timetable.
