A Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you develop the skills you need to start a career. It is equivalent to three A Levels which means when you have finished the course you can choose whether to get a job straight away or go onto higher education first. A Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma can be taken full-time or part-time and is equally suitable for school leavers and mature students.
All units are assessed, and graded and an overall grade for the qualification.
The 90 Credit Diploma is the first year of the Extended Diploma. The 90 Credit Diploma is a qualification in its own right, equivalent to 1.5 A-Levels, and a few students choose to leave the college with this qualification. If you apply to complete the Extended Diploma, equivalent to 3 A-levels, you will be first enrolled on the 90 Credit Diploma. Progression to Year 2 of the Extended Diploma will be automatic provided your performance in Year 1 reaches a satisfactory standard.
Level 3 BTEC Extended Diplomas are valued by employers and higher education (universities and colleges). The Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport & Exercise Sciences provides a very good preparation for going onto a BTEC Higher National or a degree in Sports Science and related subjects.
