Course Content

The course is made up of eight units of study of which four are mandatory.

Mandatory Core Units:

  • Business Environment Managing
  • Financial Resources and Decisions
  • Organisations and Behaviour Marketing Principles.

The other six specialists units are chosen from Business Pathway.

Course Aims

To introduce learners to the concepts of business management in preparation for a career in middle to senior management.

Special Features

The course is closely mapped to the BSc (Hons) Degree in Business offered at the Northern Regional College (validated by Ulster University). Students can transfer easily to continue their studies at degree level taking 10 modules of study to gain the Degree.

Assessment Methods

Performance in all modules will be assessed either by coursework or set examinations or a combination of both.

Applicants must: be sufficiently competent in English Language and Numeracy have obtained a BTEC Diploma in Business or Public Administration OR a BTEC National Diploma of any other title; OR at least one A-level pass together with three other GCSE O Levels at Grades C or above, or other relevant qualifications. 

For applicants who are non-English speakers you must be qualified to either: (a) Communicator; (b) Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) Level B; (c) PTE 51 or (d) IELTS5.5 (Reading and Writing must be this standard).



Where mature students wish to have prior education and/or experience taken into account, in lieu of meeting the full course entry requirements, they should contact the relevant Course Director by 13th August, as an application deadline will apply. Applicants must also refer to further details available online.

The aim of this course is toequip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills for employment in the private and public sectors. It also prepares them for self-employment and progression to the BSc Hons Degree in Business at the Northern Regional College or Ulster University, Accounting Technicians Ireland (ATI) and other Higher Education courses in related fields. Most of the professional bodies in the Business and Administration fields grant exemptions to holders of BTEC Higher Level qualifications. The course is widely recognised in the UK, Republic of Ireland and overseas.
