Northern Regional College Childcare students from Newtownabbey Campus welcomed famous artist Tom Stephenson to the college on Thursday. The purpose of Mr. Stephenson's visit was to demonstrate to students who are studying the ‘Early Years’ programme how to encourage children to optimise their creativity and utilise their imagination when they paint. During his visit he gave a masterclass on landscape painting and outlined his passion for incorporating sheep into his work. NRC tutor Eileen McAteer, who organised the visit, said: “This has been a tremendous honor to have such a distinguished local artist demonstrate to the class his expertise and above all provide them with an understanding of not just art, but what a child might feel like when they are encouraged to use their creativity skills. "Tom Stephenson's bright paintings and work has evolved over the years particularly with his range called ‘Thomas Joseph’ which illustrates sheep in different scenes and settings. His fresh and lively colourful take on these beautiful animals and landscapes have earned him favour with people all over the world. His visit was a wonderful experience for the students and has given them the confidence they need to experiment with art within their early years studies”.
