Electrical Installation - Apprentice of the Year

The College has been working in conjunction with the ETT for many years to train Electrical Installation apprentices and has in the past endeavoured to recognise apprentices who have made a determined and sustained effort to produce good quality work to the best of their ability. To this end we in the Electrical Installation Section have re-introduced the “Apprentice of the Year” award.

All second year apprentices are considered, and are short listed to approximately six candidates, by the Electrical lecturers, based on the apprentices’ examination results and the marks obtained from their practical workshop activities during their first year of training.

The overall winner is decided by a practical competition involving the installation, wiring, connecting, inspection and testing of three different circuits.

The Competition this year will be held on Monday 18th January 2010. There will be eight finalists taking part this year and the Electrical Installation Workshop (FLD16) in Farm Lodge will be used. The competition will be marked and the prize awarded at the end of the day.

An information pack is given to each finalist a few days before the competition, detailing the tasks they must undertake, to allow them to plan how they will tackle each of the tasks.

Marking will be at approximately at 4 pm and prizes/certificates awarded at 5pm in the Canteen area Farm Lodge along with the Skillbuild candidates.
