Five students from the Northern Regional College have picked up outstanding learner awards at a glitzy ceremony held at CCEA headquarters Belfast. Stephen Owens, James Beggs, Richard Moore, William McIlhatton and Stephanie Bruce all were awarded top students in subjects such as Care, Engineering, Construction, Motor Vehicle and Joinery.
The students were nominated for outstanding achievements in the Occupational Studies programme which they followed at the Northern Regional College , which allows students from local school the chance to complete a course of learning at a further education college as part of their year 11 and 12 school studies. This programme focuses on job related learning and offers pupils the opportunity to gain work related skills in a number of vocational areas.
Representing Northern Regional College at the awards ceremony, Tom Heaney, Head of Curriculum Partnerships highlighted, "We are very proud to have so many achievers at this awards ceremony. The Occupational Studies programme provides a tremendous opportunity for schools to offer specialist vocational study and gives students the chance to learn in a college environment with the very latest equipment and facilities."
