The DCGS team of PGA Professionals, Seamus Duffy (GUI Elite Coach), Johnny Foster (GUI Elite Coach), and Andrew Simmonds (PGA Pro), along with qualified Strength and Conditioning Coach Robbie Cannon (ex Irish International) and Gary McKeegan (NRC Education Course Administrator), took 30 students to stay at the Macdonald Dona Lola resort at the start of the term this January. A week’s training in beautiful surroundings and perfect weather conditions at El Chaparral Golf Course on the Costa del Sol was a stark contrast to the sub-zero temperatures back home!
Following the unique two year course, students learnt how to train, prepare for and recover from competitive rounds of golf. The week in Spain gave the students the opportunity to put into practice all the elements of the golf program they had learnt throughout the year already. Robbie Cannon led a warm-up each day, and showed the students how to perform on the course with the lowest round of the week, a gross 69 (-3).
All students finished the week fired up and motivated for the year to come, here are a few names to keep a close eye on: Alan Dunbar (Walker Cup Squad), Aaron Kearney (Senior Panel), Conor Glynn & Jack Hume (Under 18 National Panel).

With the school producing some fantastic talent, it surely won’t be long before the guys are following in the footsteps of Darren Clarke himself, onto the European tour and beyond!
