With the recession affecting many industries, and job security high on everyone’s agenda, many people are looking to Further Education for management training. It is the perfect way to build confidence, learn new skills and make yourself more employable.
Mark Duffield, a Watch Commander in Newtownards Fire Station since 2008, is this year’s top student in the Institute of Leadership and Management Level 5 Diploma. The top student award sponsored by AVX in Coleraine is awarded to the student who received the highest grades throughout the management course. This is a great achievement as his role in the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service meant that during May, when fires swept N. Ireland countryside, he had to combine study and a demanding work situation.
Mark, was delighted with the course training and said: “Whilst at times it was difficult combining study with work and home life, the sense of achievement upon completion made it all the hard work worthwhile. I believe that this form of vocational learning was very beneficial to my current role within the NIRFS. Studying at the Northern Regional College , alongside other professionals from a variety of organisations, provided valuable interaction and an enhanced learning experience.”
A spokesperson from AVX, who sponsored the trophy commented:
“We have been sponsoring staff on the ILM Management programme of courses through the NRC over the last fourteen years. It has been a rewarding programme and has allowed our employees to develop and contribute to ongoing organisational improvement and effectiveness.”
Why not consider getting a recognised professional management qualification at NRC and take responsibility for your career advancement. Employers need well trained and motivated managers.
