Congratulations to NRC Student Andrew Semple who won the BEST Creative Industries Award held in Cookstown recently. Andrew is studying the Level 2 Diploma in IT course with Interactive Games based at the Ballymoney campus.
The annual College BEST (Business & Education through Training & Skills) Awards feature software development, creative media and engineering. The awards celebrate the creative and innovative talent within Northern Ireland’s six Regional Colleges in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Over 100 students and 70 projects, competed in the BEST Finals with projects demonstrating the real world application of STEM knowledge across a broad range of disciples. Andrew’s entry called Balloon Headed Boy 2, was a creative media project to devise a sequel to an existing game for use on social networks or web-advertising to help promote products through viral means.

Andrew comments, “For this I have come up with a storyline that follows on from the original ending for the game, create additional information for the backstory, introduce new characters and then bring it all to life in the form of a playable game that could be published in web browser format.
Along with the storyline, I have had to create the digital graphics, animations and programming for the game to work.”
