Library Services

Northern Regional College Library Services provide you with the information, resources and support you need to make the most of your time at the college. You may use the services available in any of our Study Centres.

These Study Centres are open to 18:00 on the specified days.

Our aim is to widen your horizons and expand your interests. We will support you with your research needs and provide assistant in sourcing suitable resources. The Study Centres aim to provide you with the necessary digital information literacy skills to help prepare you for your next chapter such as your chosen area of work.  Our experienced and friendly staff are here to help throughout the academic year.

Library Catalogue

All students and staff will have access to our online library catalogue, known as i-Discover. Access is available to all students and staff online 24/7.

Physical Resources

Physical resources such as books and journals covering all subject areas, are located in the Study Centres. Most of these items can be issued to you on production of a student/staff ID card. Use i-Discover to search location and availability.

Electronic Resources

Electronic resources such as e-books and e-journals content can be searched for using i-Discover too. You can download these to a college computer or onto your own device.  You may also use the Northern Regional College’s Virtual Learning Environment, Canvas, online 24/7, on campus and remotely, to access our wide range of resources.

Subject specific databases e.g. SPORTDiscus, Academic Search Elite and British Standards Online, can also be accessed. College login may be required.

You can also avail of the following services:

  • Computer facilities on each campus.
  • Wi-Fi in each Study Centre and throughout the college.
  • Inductions about Library Services for all first-year students.
  • Curriculum workshops - these are offered during the academic year to support learning, enhance your digital information literacy skills tailored to your specific course needs as well as supporting you with necessary ICT skills.
  • Inter-Library Loan service – we offer an inter-library loan service so that our users do not have to travel to another campus library. Upon request, staff can retrieve resources from any of our four Study Centres, subject to prior notice.
  • Self-service reprographics facilities – each Study Centre has printing, scanning and photocopying facilities available.
  • Binding and Laminating - this service is available to students upon request. Please note for heavy bound items waiting times for completion may vary.

Throughout the year the Study Centres host a range of events such as the annual Reading Challenge launch. The Reading Challenge helps to promote reading which contributes to increased literacy levels. This provides students with a focus on their reading as well as improving confidence and well-being. Certificates are issued to participants upon completion of the challenge and incentives awarded. Past participants have found this to be a rewarding experience.

We also support a range of Student Services campaigns as well as digital learning initiatives, in conjunction with the Colleges Creative and Innovative Team. Events are arranged throughout the year to showcase new and existing resources and developments in technology such as Artificial Intelligence.
