Course Content

The NOCN Level 3 Award in Introduction to Phlebotomy introduces you to the initial theoretical knowledge underpinning the practice of phlebotomy and allows you to demonstrate application and release of a tourniquet and taking blood from a dummy arm.  

Units include:

  • Caring for Patients During the Phlebotomy Procedure Level 3
  • Understanding Phlebotomy Skills and Techniques Level 3 

Course Aims

This qualification is aimed at those who are interested in pursuing a career as a phlebotomist or related job role. 


Assessment Methods

Internal assessment of coursework and practical skills 


  • You must be aged 19 years-old or over on 1 July in year of entry. 
  • There are no formal entry requirements and you do not need to be currently employed with the health sector or related area.

Upon successful completion, you can progress to the Level 3 Certificate in Phlebotomy.
