Inclusive Learning

At Northern Regional College, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to reach their potential. We support students with a wide range of abilities, learning differences and support needs to access and succeed in further education.

We work in partnership with students, families and support agencies to create learning pathways that are individualised, inclusive and empowering.

We are committed to removing barriers to learning by:

Course Options and Pathways

Mainstream College Courses (with Support)

You can join any of our standard college programmes with appropriate support in place. Our Education Support Team provides:

  • In-class assistance or study skills support.
  • Adjustments to coursework and assessment.
  • Access to assistive technology.

Supported Learning Courses

These courses are designed for those who need a more flexible and supported learning environment. They focus on personal development, employability and life skills, helping students progress at their own pace.

These courses will help prepare you for the world of work or further education courses. You will be able to build on the skills you already have and learn new skills. You will work towards a vocational skills qualification and build on your literacy, numeracy and ICT Skills.

Courses may include:

Route2Work – a full time course for people who may experience learning difficulties/disabilities. Qualifications on offer

  • OCN NI Entry Level Diploma in Vocational Skills (Entry 3)
  • Entry Level Qualifications in English, Maths and ICT

Pathways to Employment – this is a full time course for people who may experience learning difficulties/disabilities. Qualifications on offer:

  • Level 1 Diploma in Vocational Skills
  • Level 1 Diploma in Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development
  • Essential Skills ICT, Application of Number and Communication

Transition2Work - this is a full-time course for people who may experience learning difficulties/disabilities. Qualifications on offer:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Vocational Skills
  • Level 2 Award in Personal Success & Wellbeing
  • Level 1 Award in Managing Personal Finances
  • Level 1 Award in Social Media
  • Essential Skills in Communication and Application of Number (if you have not already achieved Level 2) View courses.

Ideal for those moving on from school who need continued support before progressing to higher-level study or employment.

Supported Learning and Specialist Pathways

For students with more complex or high support needs, we offer specialist courses that promote independence and employability while developing key life skills.

Courses include:

  • Horizons – part-time course for people who may experience learning difficulties/disabilities. The aim of this course is to help students develop social skills, communication and interact with others and develop confidence, self-esteem and independence in life. This is non-accredited.   • Transition2College - this is a full-time course for those who may experience learning difficulties/disabilities. You will work towards an entry level qualification in developing skills for life and build on your numeracy, literacy and ICT skills. View courses.

Ideal for those who require intensive support.

  • Specialist learning support assistants
  • Access arrangements for exams and assessments
  • Transition support from school to college
