Course Content
- Understand special needs.
- Understand factors which affect learning.

- Understand the roles and responsibilities of professionals working in the special needs area.
- Understand the principles and practice of advocacy.
Course Aims
The OCN NI Level 3 Award in Working with Children and Young People with Special Needs is designed to provide the practitioner with the skills and knowledge required to enable them to work effectively with children and young people with special needs
Assessment Methods
- You are expected to attend scheduled classes regularly. If you do not attend for four consecutive weeks, you may be withdrawn from the course.
- You must attend your timetabled classes and actively engage with teaching and learning activities.
- You cannot enrol on courses that are scheduled at the same time.
- You must submit your own authentic work and use AI tools appropriately in line with the course guidelines.
Course Update
This course is fully funded by the Department for the Economy, under the Skill Up Programme. This course is a part of a suite of free online accredited courses that the College is offering to upskill, retrain and gain a qualification with no costs associated.
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- You must be a resident of Northern Ireland and eligible to work in the UK.
- You will be required to have sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to successfully complete the qualification.
