Course Content
The National General Certificate is the most widely held health and safety qualification in the UK with over 200,000 people having gained the award. It is aimed at managers, supervisors and staff from all types of organisations who need a broad understanding of health and safety issues.
Topics covered include UK legal requirements, risk management and common hazards such as work equipment hazards, hazardous substances, fire and electricity.
The course covers two units:
- GNC1 Management of Health and Safety
- GNC2 Risk Assessment
There are no set formal entry requirements for the General Certificate course. As it is at Level 3 standard, the course is found to be challenging with a wide range of topics and plenty to study. Assessment takes the form of a 24 hour open book exam for NG1 and a practical workplace based risk assessment NG2. Please note that NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
