This course is delivered through a combination of classroom teaching and a 225-hour work placement in a relevant Health and Social Care workplace. This may be your current job if suitable. Both of these elements are a compulsory part of the course. A noteworthy point is that this course attracts support with student finance. This is a part time fast track 1 year blended learning course, the expectation is 1 day a week in college and a further ½ day online.

The purpose of Pearson BTEC Higher National Certificate in Social and Community Work is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the social and community work sector and adapt to a constantly changing world.

There is a focus on supporting learners to develop the knowledge, skills and values necessary for continuing education, employment and professional development within the Health and Social Care sector. The qualification may include the following units:

• Law, Policy and Ethical Practice in Health and Social Care
• Demonstrating Professional Principles and Values in Health and Social Care Practice
• Mental Health and Wellbeing a whole person approach
• Fundamentals of Evidence-based Practice
• Applied Understanding of Human Development and Behaviour
• Health, Safety and Risk Management in care environments
• Effective Record Keeping 

This is a blended course, a proportion of the course will be delivered online and there will be workshops provided on campus. 

Access to computer facilities and suitable Wi-Fi is a requirement to undertake this course.

There will be workshops held throughout the year on campus, therefore applicants need to be prepared to attend classes on campus.

Applicants must have a Level 3 qualification or equivalent.

Where mature students wish to have prior education and/or experience taken into account, in lieu of meeting the full course entry requirements, they should contact the relevant Course Director or Admissions by 12th August, as an application deadline will apply. It is at the College's discretion to consider APEL enquiries after the dates stated.

Over 85% of students who complete this course progress to university to study. Previous students have progressed into the workplace and onto courses such as Paramedic, Nursing, Occupational Therapy and Social Work. Alternatively, Graduates may find employments as senior care workers, team leaders, nursing assistants and other band 3 opportunities.  10 out of 10 students would recommend the course to their family and friends.
