The prestigious awards ceremony took place on Thursday 19th February at The Burnavon Theatre in Cookstown, where Daniel was announced as the first-ever winner of the Apprentice of the Year title.
Currently completing a Level 2 Engineering Apprenticeship at Northern Regional College’s Magherafelt Campus, Daniel combines academic study with full-time employment at Eden Fabrications. Throughout his apprenticeship, he has played a key role in supporting the fabrication of reinforcing and structural steel projects across Northern Ireland, developing strong practical expertise alongside his college-based learning.
Speaking following his win, Daniel said, “Winning Apprentice of the Year is something I’m incredibly proud of. My apprenticeship has given me real confidence in my skills and allowed me to learn on live projects from day one. I’m grateful to Northern Regional College for the training and to the team at Eden Fabrications for trusting me with responsibility and supporting my development every step of the way.”
Daniel O’Boyle, Director Eden Fabrications, praised his dedication and work ethic. “Daniel has consistently demonstrated maturity, precision and a genuine passion for engineering. He takes initiative, works to a high standard and is always keen to expand his knowledge. We are extremely proud to see him recognised at these awards; it’s thoroughly deserved.”
Sean McAleese, Work Based Learning Manager at Northern Regional College, said Daniel’s success highlights the strength of apprenticeship pathways.
Sean said, “Daniel embodies everything an apprenticeship is about, ambition, hard work and progression. His achievement at the inaugural Mid Ulster Business & Environment Awards is a testament not only to his own commitment, but also to the value of collaboration between college and industry. We are delighted to see him recognised on such a significant platform.”
The Mid Ulster Business & Environment Awards celebrate organisations and individuals who make a meaningful impact on the local economy and environment. As the first recipient of the Apprentice of the Year award, Daniel’s success marks a milestone moment for both Northern Regional College and Eden Fabrications, showcasing the vital role apprentices play in driving innovation and growth across the region.
