College students gain Honours degree through innovative partnership

Thursday

Group of students

Northern Regional College has partnered with Doncaster College and University Centre in an innovative scheme to allow Childcare students to top up their qualifications. The scheme will give students from the College’s Ballymoney and Newtownabbey campuses the chance to gain extra credits and obtain a full Honours degree in Early Childhood Studies.

Angela Syson, an Early Childhood Studies lecturer at Doncaster College and University Centre, explained: “The course is designed to be both a relevant and exciting learning experience which will prove to be vital in an increasingly competitive childcare job market.

“Working together with Northern Regional College helps provide new and accessible opportunities for students to take that important next step in their professional childcare career.”

Professor Terri Scott, Principal and Chief Executive of Northern Regional College said: “The College is always pursuing new partnerships and innovative ways to add value to the qualifications our students obtain. This new scheme joins an existing range of study options and progression routes designed to help our students get the jobs they need and follow the career paths they want.”

The programme will see students from the College studying intensively with Doncaster College and University Centre in a local venue over a number of weekends throughout the year. This will enable students with a Level 5 CCLD in Leadership and Management, an HND or equivalent qualifications to complete further credits and obtain the Honours degree.

Applications for Northern Regional College’s 2020 intake of childcare courses is now open.
