This prestigious event brings together the most talented construction trainees from across the UK, providing them with a platform to demonstrate their technical ability, precision and passion for their chosen trade.
Representing Northern Regional College at this year’s final are bricklaying apprentice Daniel Beckett, a Level 5 Foundation Degree Construction student from the Ballymena campus employed by Tommy Dixon; carpentry apprentices Robbie Buchanan, from Ballymena employed by 4D Construction Ltd., and Jeremiasz Guzik, from Coleraine employed by Whiterock Log Cabins; and joinery apprentices Allie Conway, from Newtownabbey employed by Mivan Ltd., and Charlie Fleck, from Ballymena employed by W.G. Crawford Joinery Ltd.
Both Jeremiasz and Charlie are returning competitors, having each won bronze medals at last year’s SkillBuild National Final.
The group will be accompanied by Adrian Smith, a lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery at the Ballymena campus, who will act as chaperone for the finalists.
Delivered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), SkillBuild provides a unique opportunity for apprentices and trainees to showcase their skills and creativity across a wide range of construction trades. The competition celebrates excellence in vocational training and highlights the high standards of craftsmanship, professionalism and technical education across the sector.
Congratulating the apprentices on their achievement, David Russell, Curriculum Area Manager for Building Services in the Department of Advanced Technologies at Northern Regional College, said it was a tremendous accomplishment and a reflection of the College’s commitment to high-quality training.
“Reaching the SkillBuild National Final is a remarkable achievement and demonstrates the dedication and skill of our apprentices, as well as the support they receive from our staff and employers,” he said.
Ballymena apprentice Charlie Fleck, who will again compete in the Joinery category, said he is eager to return to the national stage.
“It’s a real honour to be heading back to the SkillBuild finals after winning bronze last year,” said Charlie. “I’ve learned so much since then and I’m aiming to build on that experience. It’s great to represent the College again and I’m determined to do my best in Milton Keynes.”
David Russell added that the College’s strong representation at the national finals highlights the quality of its apprenticeship programmes.
“Having five apprentices reach the national stage is a testament to their talent and hard work, and also to the dedication of our staff and industry partners,” he said. “SkillBuild is about raising standards, celebrating skill and inspiring the next generation of construction professionals, and our students are fantastic ambassadors for Northern Regional College.”
