FORMER NORTHERN REGIONAL COLLEGE STUDENT JESSICA DONAGHY AWARDED PRESTIGIOUS JP McMANUS SCHOLARSHIP

Thursday

Northern Regional College is celebrating the success of former student Jessica Donaghy, who was awarded the prestigious JP McManus Scholarship in 2025 in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement.

Jessica, from Coleraine, studied the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Computing and IT at Northern Regional College’s Coleraine campus, where she consistently achieved top grades throughout her studies. She applied for the scholarship during her second year at the College and, following her success, progressed to Ulster University in September 2025 to study Computer Science at the Belfast campus, where she is now undertaking a four year degree.

The JP McManus Scholarship is awarded to one student from each further education college across Northern Ireland and provides financial support of £5,850 per year for the full duration of an undergraduate degree. The scholarship is awarded on academic merit and is designed to support high achieving students as they progress into higher education.

Speaking about her achievement, Jessica said, “I would strongly encourage any eligible student to apply for the JP McManus Scholarship. The support it provides has made a significant difference as I transition to university, allowing me to focus fully on my studies. Applying in my second year was one of the best decisions I mad and I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity.”

Ricky Ho, Course Coordinator at Northern Regional College, said, “Jessica’s achievement is a testament to her hard work, commitment and academic ability. She was an outstanding student throughout her time at the College and we are delighted to see her progressing so successfully at university. The JP McManus Scholarship is a fantastic opportunity for our students and we would strongly encourage those with the potential to put themselves forward.”

Northern Regional College is now encouraging current second year students to consider applying for the 2026 JP McManus Scholarship programme, with applications now open.
