Northern Regional College Apprentices Qualify for National Skillbuild Finals

Monday

Male and female holding a certificate

Congratulations to Northern Regional College apprentices Jamie Matthews and Bailey Gibson who have qualified for the national finals of the Skillbuild competitions in joinery and carpentry respectively. Jamie, who is from Ballyclare is employed by Mivan, while Bailey is from Larne and employed by Kudos, a leading timer frame company. They came through the Northern Ireland regional finals with flying colours earlier this year to top their respective categories and finish in the top eight in the UK.

They will represent the College - and Northern Ireland - in the national finals in Milton Keynes in November.

Supported by the Department for the Economy and local construction companies, the SkillBuild competitions provide an opportunity to showcase the high level of skills and the impressive talent within the workforce, as well as raising the status and standards of professional and technical education and training.

David Russell, Curriculum Area Manager for Construction in the Department of Advanced Technologies at Northern Regional College, said: “The SkillBuild competitions are a fantastic opportunity for our students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge gained in their specific curriculum skill area and see how they measure up against their peers.”

Congratulating Jamie and Gibson on qualifying for the national finals, Christine Brown, Vice Principal for Teaching and Learning, said it was a great achievement not only for the talented young apprentices but for their employers and the College.

“Jamie and Gibson’s success is testimony to their own commitment and skill, as well as the high standards of training delivered by their employers and the College’s carpentry and joinery teams as we wish them every success as their progress on their career journey.”
