Competing against the most talented trainees from across the UK, Jeremiasz Guzik claimed first place in Carpentry, while fellow apprentice Robbie Buchanan secured a well-deserved second place. Their achievements highlight the exceptional skill, dedication and craftsmanship being developed through the College’s apprenticeship pathways.
Jeremiasz, from Coleraine and employed by Whiterock Log Cabins, and Robbie, from Ballymena and employed by 4D Construction Ltd., impressed judges with their technical ability, precision and creativity throughout the demanding two-day competition.
Speaking after being announced national champion, Jeremiasz said, “I’m absolutely delighted to have won first place. SkillBuild is such a challenging competition and to come out on top feels incredible. I’m so grateful for the support I’ve had from Northern Regional College and my employer, Whiterock Log Cabins. It’s helped me to keep improving and believing in myself.”
Second-place winner Robbie added, “Taking home second place at a national final is something I’m really proud of. The experience has been brilliant and the training and encouragement from the College have played a huge part in helping me reach this stage. It feels amazing to be recognised at this level.”
Helen Hampsey, Assistant Curriculum Director at Northern Regional College, praised the students for their exceptional performance, “We are immensely proud of Jeremiasz and Robbie. To secure first and second place on a UK stage is a fantastic achievement and a testament to their talent, dedication and professionalism. Being at the competition myself and seeing the standard of work on display made their accomplishment even more special. They are excellent ambassadors for Northern Regional College and for the construction industry.”
SkillBuild is delivered by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and showcases some of the brightest talent in construction. The prestigious competition brings together highly skilled learners and apprentices to battle it out to be crowned winner of their chosen trade.

The apprentices were supported at the event by Adrian Smith, lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery at the Ballymena campus, who acted as chaperone.
