The College hosted the Talent Knows No Limits – Support for Employers Employing People with Disabilities forum on Tuesday 19th May 2026, bringing together employers, disability organisations, government representatives and advocates to explore practical ways to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
The event focused on helping businesses address workforce challenges while promoting inclusive recruitment, training, work placements and career progression.
Employers attending the forum received practical guidance on the support available to them, heard real-world examples from businesses already embracing inclusive employment, and explored how reasonable adjustments and disability awareness can help create more accessible workplaces.
Gabrielle Quinn, Business Engagement Officer and Project Lead at Northern Regional College, said, “Retail and hospitality businesses continue to face workforce challenges, but there is a significant pool of talented people who are ready and eager to contribute when given the right opportunity and support.
Gabrielle added, “This forum was about helping employers understand the practical support available, sharing examples of good practice and creating clear pathways into meaningful employment for people with disabilities. At Northern Regional College, we are committed to working with employers and partner organisations to support inclusive employment, skills development and progression opportunities that benefit both individuals and businesses.”
The programme featured contributions from industry leaders and disability employment specialists, including Karen Yates, Chief Executive of Causeway Chamber, who discussed current workforce challenges and funding opportunities available to employers.
Clare McCaughan and Gerard Haughey from Triangle Progression to Employment provided guidance on disability awareness, workplace adjustments and employer support, while Hector Minto, Chief Executive of Kerbcut, explored how AI tools can support employees with disabilities in retail and hospitality settings.
A panel discussion, facilitated by Helen Logan of Motivated & Able, featured employer case studies and lived experience perspectives, with contributions from representatives of Tim Hortons, McLister’s Ballycastle and employee speaker Nathan Lyons.
The discussion focused on practical approaches to recruitment, onboarding and workplace support, as well as the positive impact inclusive employment can have on individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
The event also highlighted apprenticeship and placement opportunities, with 16 students currently seeking work placements within the retail and hospitality sectors. Employers were invited to express interest in work placements, apprenticeships, disability awareness training and future collaboration through a proposed Local Disability Employment Network.
The forum forms part of ongoing work, funded by the Department for the Economy, to strengthen inclusive employment pathways and support businesses in developing diverse, skilled and sustainable workforces.
