International student Elma Mae Baltazar has completed a Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care at Northern Regional College. Beyond a desire to continue her education to become a nurse, Elma, who now lives in Antrim, wasn’t aware of all her options or how to go about securing her dream job.

“I am originally from the Philippines and wasn’t sure what would be the best way for me to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse,” she said.

“I didn’t know where to start, but the career advice that I received from the College, was extremely supportive and they helped me decide what to do.

“The Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care is perfect for anyone considering a similar career pathway.

“I was a little nervous that I would find writing essays and completing some of the work difficult, but the lecturers were very supportive and reassuring.”

Northern Regional College offered huge support to Elma during her studies.

Having gaining confidence in herself through her course, Elma now wants to go to university.

“The support was easily the best thing about studying at the College,” she said.

“Jacqui McAllister and Siobhan McEldowney really empowered me during my time there and I now have the confidence to apply for nursing at university.”

Elma currently works in Antrim Area Hospital in order to gain more experience working in the healthcare sector and to consolidate the skills and knowledge she developed during her time at the College.
