Two sports students from Northern Regional College are all-Ireland champions, having played their part in Ulster’s win over Munster in the final day of the Underage Interprovincial Golf championships at Mount Wolseley last weekend. Playing off of handicaps of three and one respectively, Adam Buchanan (Malone Golf Club) and Noah Bickerstaff (Masserene Golf Club) are both studying for a Level 3 Extended Diploma Sport Coaching and Development at Northern Regional College’s Newtownabbey campus.

The talented teenagers were part of the victorious under-16 boys’ team that won the title at the underage Interprovincial Championships. Ulster defeated Munster with a final score of 3-5 to 1.5. In an exciting competition, all five matches went to the 17th hole, with Ulster’s 2.5 points out of a possible four in the Singles matches proving crucial.

Adam and Noel like the practical ‘hands-on’ approach to learning at the College and enjoy experiencing new subjects like fitness testing and the roles and responsibilities of coaches. They say the structure of the course allows them to balance everyday life and studies and - more importantly for young talented golfers with aspirations to make it into the professional ranks - plenty of time to practice their golf.
