Northern Regional College Welcomes Hundreds of Primary School Pupils to Discover Your Future Event

Northern Regional College welcomed over 400 primary school pupils to its Magherafelt campus for a special Discover Your Future event, designed to inspire young learners and introduce them to the wide range of opportunities available through Further Education.

Pupils from Bellaghy Primary School, Castledawson Primary School, Holy Family Primary School, , Magherafelt Primary School, Moneymore Primary School, St Patrick’s Primary School, Glen, Maghera, St Oliver Plunkett’s Primary School, Toomebridge and Spires Primary School attended the event on Wednesday 20th May.

The interactive morning gave P6 and P7 pupils the opportunity to explore a variety of vocational subject areas through fun, practical and engaging activities. Sessions included Arts and Crafts, Animal Management, Carpentry and Joinery, Brickwork, Motor Vehicle, Engineering, Computing, Childcare, Hair and Beauty. Pupils took part in a range of hands-on tasks, including wiring plugs, bricklaying, designing houses, making AI generated images, observing the 3D printers and virtual welder in action, learning more about the Hydrogen Car and Smoothie Bike, trying basic programming, learning CPR skills and exploring practical demonstrations linked to different career pathways.

The event was designed to help pupils connect their interests and talents with future learning and career pathways, while giving them a first-hand experience of the supportive and welcoming environment at Northern Regional College.

Helen Hampsey, Assistant Curriculum Director at Northern Regional College, said, “Discover Your Future was a fantastic opportunity for local primary school pupils to visit our Magherafelt campus and experience Further Education in a fun and engaging way.

Helen added, “At Northern Regional College, we are passionate about helping young people see the many opportunities that are available to them. Through hands-on activities across a wide range of subject areas, pupils were able to explore their interests, try something new and gain a better understanding of what their local Further Education college offers.

“It was wonderful to see so many pupils getting involved, asking questions and enjoying the chance to learn in a practical environment. We hope the event helped spark curiosity, build confidence and increase awareness of the many exciting pathways, skills and career opportunities available to them as they continue their education.”

Northern Regional College’s Magherafelt campus offers a broad range of courses and training opportunities across key vocational areas, supporting learners of all ages to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed for further study, employment and future careers.
