Principal’s reception for WorldSkills Gold Medal Winner

Thursday

Principal of the College presenting engraved plaque on children's wooden climbing frame to male apprentice

Northern Regional College student, 18-year-old Samuel Gilmore from Aghadowey, is pictured with Northern Regional College Principal and Chief Executive, Professor Terri Scott, at a reception in the college’s Coleraine campus to celebrate Samuel’s gold medal win in the carpentry division at the UK National Finals of WorldSkills UK LIVE. Samuel and his fellow competitors were given 18 hours to design and construct a children’s wooden climbing frame in front of 80,000 spectators in Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre. Samuel, a Level 2 apprentice, surpassed competition from Level 4 colleagues to become one of only four gold medal winners from Northern Ireland.
