Course Content
This award is achieved through completion of one mandatory unit, which focuses on developing an understanding of the context in which individuals with learning disabilities are supported.
Learners will explore:
- What is meant by a learning disability and common models of disability
- The importance of person-centred approaches when supporting individuals
- The rights of individuals with learning disabilities, including dignity, choice and inclusion
- Key legislation, policies and guidance that underpin support practice
- The role of professionals and services involved in supporting individuals with learning disabilities
- Safeguarding and promoting wellbeing
This unit provides a strong foundation of knowledge for those working, or intending to work, in support, care, education or community settings.
Assessment Methods
Assessment is portfolio-based.
Assessment methods may include:
- Short written assignments
- Knowledge-based tasks
- Case studies
- Reflective accounts
All assessment is internally assessed and externally quality assured by OCN NI.
