Top marks for business studies students

Northern Regional College students Michael Kearney, Rachel-Rose Mallon and Catriona O’Neill all achieved top marks in their Business Studies course at the College’s Magherafelt campus. They were each awarded a triple Distinction* grade in the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business Studies, which is the highest possible grade and is equivalent to three A*s at A-Level.

A Newtownabbey student who left school without any qualifications thrived when he went to Northern Regional College and achieved an overall distinction profile to secure a place at his first choice university. Stephen Harris, who completed the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport at the College’s Newtownabbey campus with a Distinction* and two Distinctions – the equivalent of three A levels – now plans to do a Coaching degree at Liverpool John Moores University.

Having gone down both the A level and BTEC route, Whiteabbey student Amy Cameron has no hesitation in recommending the latter. Amy has just completed a BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care at Northern Regional College in Newtownabbey with triple Distinction* - the highest possible result - and secured a coveted place to study Children’s Nursing at Queen’s University, Belfast.

Volunteering inspires County Derry student

Volunteering with his local Special Olympics club has inspired a County Derry student to pursue a career in sports psychology. Oisin Campbell from Moneymore achieved triple Distinction* in Level 3 Extended Sports Diploma at Northern Regional College’s Magherafelt campus, the equivalent of 3 A*s at A-Level, and next month he will being studying Sports Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University.

Local student Jakub Ziemiecki has said that studying at Northern Regional College has had a ‘transformational impact’ on his life. Jakub, who is originally from Poland and now lives in Belfast, completed a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism with an overall distinction profile, achieving two Distinction* grades and a Distinction. The former is the highest possible grade, equivalent to an A* at A-Level, securing him a place at Liverpool John Moores University.

With 3As, 4Bs and 3 Cs at GCSE, Cerys Lundy (18) could stayed on at school to do her A levels but instead she opted to do study Computer Science at Northern Regional College. Cerys, who is from Portstewart, completed a BTEC Extended Diploma in Computer Science at the College’s Coleraine campus with triple Distinction*, the highest possible grade and the equivalent of three A*s at A level. She has now secured a place on the five year Computer Science Masters course at Queen’s University, Belfast which includes a year professional experience.
