Knowing that he is helping to make a difference to children’s lives is the most rewarding part of his job, according to County Derry primary school teacher, Ryan McAuley. Ryan’s journey to becoming a teacher began at Northern Regional College in September 2015 when he enrolled on the Level 3 Children’s Care and Development course at the College’s campus in Magherafelt. This was his stepping stone to future success and from here, he progressed to Stranmillis University College to do a degree in Early Childhood Studies.

Economy Minister Gordon Lyons today welcomed confirmation that Heron Bros Ltd has been appointed as lead contractor to develop a new £45million campus for Northern Regional College in Ballymena. Located at Farm Lodge, the new campus will see teaching at the college’s existing sites at Farm Lodge, Trostan Avenue and the Lamont Building in the town consolidated onto one state-of-the-art campus. Initial preparatory work is expected to begin this month, with construction onsite commencing in June 2022. The new campus is due to be operational for the start of term in September 2024 with all works, including the new car park, fully complete for December 2024.

Students who successfully completed the intensive five-week training programme at Ballymena’s Manufacturing Excellence Academy say it will improve their employability. Northern Regional College played a key role in The Academy, which was established with funding from The Gallaher Trust and support from Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s Manufacturing Task Force.

Northern Regional College Principal and Chief Executive, Mel Higgins, has welcomed the signing of the Belfast Region City Deal, describing it as ‘a significant milestone for skills development in the region and in Northern Ireland’. The Belfast Region City Deal, the first of four City Deals for Northern Ireland, was signed by UK and NI Executive Ministers in Belfast this week. Over the next decade, it will unlock £1 billion of transformative co-investment which will deliver more than 20 ambitious projects and programmes, create up to 20,000 new and better jobs and help make the region a global investment destination.
