As a direct response to the demands on the health and social care sector during the pandemic, Northern Regional College’s Business Engagement Team has introduced a new accredited qualification for those providing care and support to anyone approaching the end of their life. The 12-week OCN Level 2 Award in End of Life Care course is free and suitable for people working in a health and social setting, as well as anyone who may be providing end of life care to a family member or those looking to change career or develop further skills in their current role.

Northern Regional College has announced that its Principal & Chief Executive, Professor Terri Scott, will be leaving the College at the end of this academic year to take up a new role as Pro Vice-Chancellor at Ulster University. Since joining the College in 2014, Professor Scott has led the College through major transformational changes to deliver improvements, spearheading an ambitious strategy to consolidate the College’s provision across four campuses. As part of a £84 million Department for the Economy funded capital building programme, new state of the art campuses are being built in both Coleraine and Ballymena.

Koulla Yiasouma, Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People has called for ‘robust co-operation’ between organisations who support children and young people with autism. Making the opening address at an online conference for parents, carers and professionals working with children with autism, the Commissioner said the success of the conference was testament to how working together can make a difference.

Uzma studied Botany at the University of Peshawar in her native Pakistan before moving to Northern Ireland with her husband and three sons in 2018.

The head of Ryobi Aluminium Casting UK Ltd has praised his team of apprentices, recognising the important role that they play in sustaining the company’s pipeline of talent. The Carrickfergus-based firm has been working in collaboration with Northern Regional College for over a decade to deliver their apprenticeship programme which sees participants working at Ryobi whilst also receiving training from the Further Education College.

Northern Regional College Health and Social Care students at Newtownabbey with an eye for business and flair for innovation had a clean sweep at the College’s Project/Problem Based Learning competition. to celebrate vocational excellence. Organised by the Entrepreneurship Hub to celebrate vocational excellence, the competition attracted entries from across the College and the top five teams were selected to pitch their business ideas to leading local entrepreneurs, Helen Keys, Simon Hunter and Cristian Hoyos.
