College Open Days are not just for school-leavers as local nurse Hanan Billingsley has discovered. Although she has more than 10 years’ nursing experience under her belt, Hanan said she knows she made the right decision to return to education when she enrolled on a professionally accredited leadership course at Northern Regional College’s Newtownabbey campus.

Jordan Gaw from Ballyclare is a second year Computing apprentice at Northern Regional College. Through the HLA he spends four days per week with his employer Hutchinson Engineering in Kilrea and the remaining day in the College’s Farm Lodge Campus in Ballymena engaging in classroom-based learning.

Chris McConnaghie, who is employed as maintenance manager with SDC Trailers in Toomebridge, completed the Foundation Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with distinction at the College. He is currently doing a BEng (Hons) degree sponsored by his employer.

Mark spent four years at the College where he completed a Level 4 qualification before progressing to a Foundation Degree in Integrative Counselling Practice at the College’s Trostan Avenue Campus in Ballymena. Although he admits it required a lot of hard work and commitment, Mark said he is looking forward to using his knowledge and skills to help other people.
