Northern Regional College gets a kick out of collaborating with Greenisland FC to promote mental hea

Staff at Northern Regional College’s Newtownabbey campus have collaborated with their local football club to develop a ten-week health and fitness programme, to support students’ mental well-being. An initiative with Greenisland Football Club will pilot from February onwards with students on the College Connect programme at the Newtownabbey and Ballymena campuses.

Traineeships to Play an Important Role in Economic Recovery

Traineeships will have an important role to play in Northern Ireland’s economic recovery. Northern Regional College currently offers traineeships in traditional vocational areas such as brickwork, plumbing, motor vehicle, engineering, and joinery and the College’s provision is set to expand across a wide range of vocational areas over the next two years.

Applications Invited for The Gallaher Trust’s Scholarship Scheme

Northern Regional College is currently inviting eligible higher education students to apply for The Gallaher Trust’s Scholarship for the 2022/23 academic year. To be eligible, students must be aged 18, have a primary address in the greater Ballymena area and have been offered a place at Northern Regional College for September 2022 to complete a two-year qualification in one of the following subjects: Foundation Degree Engineering; Foundation Degree Business with Digital Technology; Foundation Degree Computing; or Higher National Diploma Creative Media. The Scholarship will cover course fees of up to £2,500 per annum.

Northern Regional College Students Pilot New Software to Improve Employability

Students at Northern Regional College in Magherafelt are helping to pilot a new software programme aimed at improving young people’s employability. Belfast based online learning solutions company, DAMGEO, is in the process of developing a product to provide digital careers support service for 11-18 year olds. Feedback from the Co Derry students will be used to identify and iron out any challenges and glitches before the app is commercially launched.  

Northern Ireland’s Further Education Colleges join national campaign to support local communities

Northern Ireland’s six Further Education Colleges have joined a national initiative to help staff and students support and connect with local communities. The Good for Me Good for FE campaign aims to generate £1 million worth of social value via a programme of community action including volunteering, fundraising and charitable partnerships over the next twelve months.

Learning can be a great way to relax and unwind, especially if enjoy what you’re learning about. So, if you would like to develop an existing skill or just pick up something completely new, check out the wide range of short, part-time courses, which get underway this month at Northern Regional College. As well as being enjoyable and confidence building, learning for leisure could open the door to new opportunities. If the part-time course whets your appetite and you want to take your pursuit of learning further, this could be your stepping-stone to a more advanced course, which in turn could improve your employability or even lead a change of career.
