Some of Northern Ireland’s top apprentices and learners will be going for gold this week at the prestigious WorldSkills UK LIVE finals – the ‘Olympics’ of vocational skills. Nine Northern Regional College students fought off stiff competition, battling through the fiercely competitive inter-campus and regional qualifying rounds to secure their place, with the original entry of over 3,000 whittled down to just 500 for the national finals.

A graphic design student from Ballymoney is set to represent Northern Regional College in Birmingham at the World Skills UK LIVE Finals: the ‘Olympics of vocational skills’. Philip Park (17), who studies Level 3 Creative Media Production at the College’s Coleraine campus, fought off stiff competition in a series of inter-campus and regional qualifiers to secure his place at the prestigious national finals.

A Northern Regional College welding student will represent Northern Ireland at the WorldSkills UK LIVE finals in Birmingham next week – the first ever welder to represent Northern Ireland at the prestigious national finals considered as ‘Olympics of vocational skills’. Tadas Dobrovlskis (24), who is studying Advanced Welding at the College’s Newtownabbey campus, moved to Northern Ireland from Lithuania after graduating with a Social Science degree in Logistics and Transport.

A talented young web design student from Larne will represent Northern Regional College in Birmingham next week at the WorldSkills UK LIVE finals – the ‘Olympics of vocational skills’. Jack Marshall, an Interactive Media student at the College’s Newtownabbey campus, fought off stiff competition in the regional qualifiers to secure his place at the prestigious national finals which take place from 21 – 23 November at the NEC, Birmingham. The finals are at the heart of WorldSkills UK LIVE, the UK’s largest skills, apprenticeship and careers event.

An Antrim bricklayer will represent Northern Regional College in Birmingham next week at the WorldSkills UK LIVE finals – the ‘Olympics of vocational skills’. Ashton Logan, who is now a part-time lecturer in bricklaying at the College’s Ballymena campus, competed in a gruelling series of qualifying rounds as a student to secure his place at the prestigious national finals.

Abigail Reilly, a Level 3 apprentice plumber at the College in Ballymena, fought off stiff competition – and an all male field – in a series of inter-campus and regional qualifiers to secure her place at the prestigious national finals.
