Northern Regional College has been awarded the Matrix Quality Standard for Student Services, the gold standard certification which underlines the College’s commitment to providing exemplary support to all students. The Matrix Quality Standard is the international standard for ensuring the quality of delivery of high-quality information, advice and guidance. The latest Matrix accreditation review of Northern Regional College noted that the College’s Student Services Team continues to ‘punch above its weight’.

Marie Nancarrow, an award-winning designer and passionate advocate of sustainable fashion, has encouraged Art and Design students at Northern Regional College to ‘reuse, repurpose and recycle’ materials. During a visit to Northern Regional College’s Ballymena campus, Marie outlined how she identified a growing market for sustainable fashion and then launched her own business.

Congratulating the award winners, Principal and Chief Executive Mel Higgins said the Staff Awards recognised the outstanding contributions that individuals and teams at the College made to support their students and other members of staff.

Northern Regional College has introduced ‘drop in’ Essential Skills Hubs at all campuses to offer students additional support in English and Maths. Donal MacAuley, Acting Curriculum Area Manager for Essential Skills explains the thinking behind the exciting initiative: “The pandemic has been very disruptive to learning at all levels and some of our students have been affected more than others. We have found that some of them, including those who have already achieved their GCSE Maths and English, are struggling to complete their coursework.”
