Local post primary school principals had the opportunity to see Northern Regional College’s new campus in Coleraine this week. Principals and key staff members from several local post primary schools had the opportunity to learn about the campus plans, journey and progress from Project Director, Kieran Mooney, and Heron Bros, the building contractor. The campus development is currently under construction, but has now reached an exciting, advanced phase having passed the mid-point of the construction programme. The new campus will consolidate all teaching at the College’s former Coleraine and Ballymoney campuses onto one expanded site. Construction is progressing well and scheduled for completion for the start of the new 2024/25 academic year.

A former student was among the successful entrepreneurs to speak to current students at an event to relaunch Northern Regional College’s Entrepreneurship Hub at the Newtownabbey campus. Among those to share the story of their entrepreneurial journey with the next generation of budding entrepreneurs was Gregory Bradley, who studied business at the College’s Coleraine campus. He is the founder of Blk Box, a company which manufactures and supplies high end gym equipment. Since it was established in 2012, it has enjoyed global success and customers now include IRFU, Arsenal, Google, LinkedIn and The Royals in Dubai.

The Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) is one of a growing number of organisations to benefit from short courses delivered by Northern Regional College. The College partners with a range of businesses across many sectors to offer accredited qualifications which are designed to equip individuals with additional skills and knowledge. The training provided by the College covers many sectors and subject areas including, Health and Social Care, Digital Marketing, Green Technologies, Graduate Programme, Business and Management.

Part-time study not only offers greater flexibility but can help your confidence and boost your employment prospects, according to a Northern Regional College student. Belfast man Gregory Millar is in the second and final year of a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Construction and the Built Environment at Northern Regional College in Ballymena. He is currently employed by Radius Housing as a Trainee Asset Officer, a role which involves ensuring that the Radius buildings are suitably maintained.

The unique event saw students from Northern Ireland’s FE Colleges and Royal Navy Submarine Flotilla Teams go head-to-head in a culinary challenge at Belfast Met Titanic campus.

Inspired by a study visit to the Netherlands in 2019, a lecturer at Northern Regional College has been the driving force behind mentoring learners in their project to open a dementia friendly café in Larne. Bluebell Café at the Gillaroo Nursing home was officially opened by local personality Olivia Nash, better known as the diminutive ‘Ma’ in Give My Head Peace. It is the first dementia friendly café to open in the Mid and East Antrim Council area.
