Engineering students Jude Moore and Aaron Stevenson who make up ‘The Athletes’ Industrial Robotics team, will represent Northern Regional College in the WorldSkills UK national finals next week. The national finals are traditionally held at the NEC, Birmingham but, because of Covid restrictions, this year’s finals will take place in 23 different locations across the UK. ‘The Athletes’ is one of four teams in the Industrial Robotics final and with all four teams representing Northern Regional College, WorldSkills invited the College to host the Industrial Robotics final at its Ballymena campus, Farm Lodge.

Economy Minister Gordon Lyons today visited Northern Regional College (NRC) to launch a new Assured Skills Collaborative Welding Academy, with 12 training places. Successful applicants to the Academy will receive industry standard welding training that will provide them with the skills to take up potential welding roles with one of six companies in Ballymoney, Ballymena and the surrounding area. Applications will open on Monday 15 November.

Global Perspectives on Health and Social Care, Collaborative Discussions with Northern Ireland and the U.S on November 16th – 17th, is organised by North West Regional College, Northern Regional College and Ulster University, in partnership with St Petersburg College in Florida.

Islandmagee’s Savannah Hodgins will represent Northern Regional College in the 3D Digital Games Art category at the WorldSkills UK national finals. WorldSkills UK is a competition-based development programme designed to enhance practical skills and knowledge taught on vocational courses by assessing an individual’s employability attributes in a competitive environment. The original entry of over 3,000 competitors in 64 different skills area was whittled down through a series of local and regional heats with the eight highest scoring competitors in each skills area making it through to the national finals.

Although his two older brothers work in hospitality, Coleraine teenager Tyler Campbell, who is a catering student at Northern Regional College in Ballymoney, insists he’s not just following in their footsteps. Tyler knew from a very young age that he wanted to be a chef, so when Contemporary Cuisine and Patisserie and Baking was introduced as a new GSCE subject at his school, he jumped at it.
