Jamie Matthews, a Northern Regional College and Mivan apprentice Joiner from Antrim is heading to Denmark in September, to test their skills against the crème de la crème of Europe at EuroSkills Herning 2025. It is Europe’s largest skills competition and takes place from 9-13 September.

Northern Regional College is delighted to celebrate the success of Jasmine Radcliffe, a former student who has been awarded the prestigious JP McManus All Ireland Scholarship. Jasmine from Newtownabbey, who studied the Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Creative Media Practice at the College, will receive £5,500 each year for the duration of her undergraduate degree in Animation at Ulster University.

Over seventy pupils from nine local post-primary schools participated in Ballymena Rotary Club’s annual technology challenge, hosted by Northern Regional College. This year’s challenge required students to design and build a Space Capsule Launcher using only the materials provided. Working in teams of four, the students had to construct a launcher capable of propelling a capsule through a designated hoop and achieving a minimum height of three metres before returning as close as possible to the launch pad.

Northern Regional College Joinery apprentices, Charlie Fleck and Jamie Matthews are setting out on a journey of a lifetime, in an intrepid bid to do the UK proud on the international stage at the next WorldSkills Competition. Known as the ‘skills olympics’, it will be held in Shanghai from 22-27 September 2026.

As part of the Go Succeed Community Outreach initiative, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council has partnered with Northern Regional College to inspire and support the next generation of entrepreneurs across the region to deliver sessions to students, designed to spark creativity, encourage collaboration and problem-solving, and ultimately challenge students to devise real-world solutions to pressing social and industry issues. The camps brought together expert facilitators, mentors and local business leaders, allowing students to ideate, create, and pitch business concepts for feedback and further development.
